HyFlex Manufacturing

Our History

HyFlex Corporation’s passion for contract manufacturing started way back in 1964. After designing and manufacturing a mobile scissor lift platform, HyFlex founder Ernie Mills and his son Ben began to develop pumping and mixing equipment to use in the aggregated coatings industries. This became their primary focus for the next three decades, but they still carried an enthusiasm for manufacturing along with it. In 1998, Ben’s son, Allen — the current owner — graduated from Purdue University with an ABE degree with a specialization in machine systems. Since he grew up in the midst of a fabrication shop, it was natural for Allen to pursue contract manufacturing.

In 2000, HyFlex purchased its first CNC fabrication equipment. The company’s first fabrication facility was definitely humble — a small pole barn in their rural location. In 2004, the company added its first 2D laser to the small shop. A second laser came in 2006 along with a 10,000 square foot addition to the facility. In 2007, a 26,000 square foot building was added to begin producing large weldments. A batch powder coating operation was added in 2008, and the company’s first automated laser came a year later.

The company grew its contract manufacturing operation significantly through the implementation of the Global Shop ERP system, which integrated automated laser programming into a system that decreased the quote-to-customer response time. HyFlex also greatly expanded its 24-7 cutting capacity through the purchase of a 60,000 sq. ft. building and a 6 kW automated fiber laser. All laser cutting and metal fabrication is now done in the company’s Knightstown location. Since moving into the facility an additional 10 kw fiber laser, multiple press brakes, and an automated panel bender have been added to enhance products and services offered to our customers.  The future of its contract manufacturing operation will grow bigger and brighter from here.
